You've come a long way, baby

My beloved reader posed a question about Adam and Eve in the garden, why God called out to Adam, knowing that Eve had sinned first. I can answer that easily. I have no idea.

Here are some verses to confuse yourself with:

"And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety." --1 Timothy 2:14,15

"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come." --Romans 5:12-14

I think this is where I go to make sense of it, at least in terms of our standing before God as men and women.

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." --Galatians 3:28

  1. yes, I agree & thank you. I do love that verse so much. & actually the more confusing verses still point to the fact that it doesn't matter - all have sinned.

& of course, our Gal 3:28 raises another whole crop of discussion: "neither slave nor free". How many Americans can stomach that thought? How many women (like me) who would rather not think we've been affected by the women's lib movement of the 60's & 70's, still find rebellion in our hearts when it comes to "minding our husbands"? How many of us could still serve with gladness if we were slaves? Most Americans spend our time thinking of what we can get next (I know I do). It bends my mind to think about this component of the verse. I have even more thoughts on this, but it would take some length.
