Living bread

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” --John 6:51

A matter of faith

If a man that is desperately sick today, did believe he should arise sound the next morning; or a man today, in despicable poverty, had assurance that he should tomorrow arise a prince: would they be afraid to go to bed....?

Far from God

Although believers by nature, are far from God, and children of wrath, even as others, yet it is amazing to think how nigh they are brought to him again by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Off The Hood

Two nuns were travelling through Europe in their car. They got to Transylvania and were stopped at a traffic light. Suddenly, a diminutive Dracula jumps onto the hood of their car and scratches the windshield!

"Quick, quick!" shouts the first nun, "What shall I do?"
"Turn on the windshield wipers, that will get rid of this abomination," shouts the second.
The nun switches them on, knocking Dracula about, but he clings on and hisses at them loudly!
"What shall I do now?" shouts the first nun.
"Switch on the windshield washer, I filled it with Holy Water when we stopped in the Vatican!" says the second.
Dracula steams as the water burns his skin, but somehow manages to hang on. He hisses at the nuns even louder now!
"Now what?" screams the first nun.
"Show him your cross!" replies the second.
So the first nun rolls down the window and shouts: "GET OFF MY HOOD YOU STUPID IDIOT!!!!"

Roads Go Ever On

“Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.

Roads go ever ever on,
Under cloud and under star.
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen,
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green,
And trees and hills they long have known.

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with weary feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone.
Let others follow, if they can!
Let them a journey new begin.
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.”

The simple truth

Believe and be saved!

Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. -- John 5:24

Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. --John 6:47

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; --John 11:25

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”--Acts 4:12

He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” --Acts 10:43

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. --Romans 6:23

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. --Romans 10:9

for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” --Romans 10:13

Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.  Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. --Acts 13:38-39

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. --John 3:36

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. --John 3:16-18

There you have it.  Salvation, a free gift, freely bestowed to all who believe in Jesus Christ.  Also known as the good news, or gospel.  It is a wonderful message, and it is shocking to me how little I hear it!

I know you are, but what am I?

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. --Romans 2:1

My friends

My dear Christian friends,

Do not be discouraged!

When you are looked down upon and outcast,
Remember that Christ was looked down upon and outcast.

When your friends forsake you,
Remember that Christ was forsaken by all.
"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken Me?"

When you are judged as sinners and despised,
Remember that Jesus is the friend of sinners.

The religious folk of Jesus' day hated him.
Followers of Christ should not expect to be treated differently.

Remember that your faith is not in other believers,
They are full of weaknesses and will let you down.

Though the fellowship and encouragement of the saints can be wonderful,
the same saints are more than capable of wounding you.

Satan still finds many ways to cause discord, even among believers.
The weakness of the flesh will always be with us in this life.
Spiritual pride and self-righteousness are not easily rooted out,
and no one is immune, myself most of all.

But when you are sad, and depressed, and hurt by the vile behavior of people,
Whoever they may be, (though what could be worse than betrayal by a friend),

Think of the holy and harmless Savior.  The meek and lowly,
bearing unimaginable shame, taking abuse that he did not deserve,
for the good of those who spit on him.

He knows far better what it means to bear disgrace unjustly,
and you know that he cares for you.
"having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7

I love you both,
Your frog-legged friend
